the dark arts have been around forever pretty much.

dark arts: intent to harm, injure, kill other person

covers wide range, mostly potions and charms

u cant stop once u start, it corrupts ur body and mind

impossible to truly know the dark arts, but there are 5 categories of known dark magic

• dark spells
• dark potions
• dark creatures
• dark artefacts
• dark practices

dark spell- spell cast w/ intent to harm others

spell categories

• jinx- lowest level; minor irritation, mainly pranks, no lasting damage
• hex- slightly darker; more lasting damage, major inconvieniences, can be reversed w/ hex breaker
• curse- highest level; cast to severely harm or even kill, discouraged unless absolutely necessary

unforgiveable curses: darkest spells ever, 3 curses. using even 1 will put u in azkaban for the rest of your life.

lumos and nox:

• brought up in dada bc lumos can keep dark creatures away from u; they wont approach you when ur wand is lit.
• reminder that pronunciation is v important
